Ah, here he comes, that son of a gun, that cat, that Garfield, that gigantic thing — except… There’s something different about him. It’s weird. He just doesn’t seem very… Garfield-y? Anyway, in honor of the birthday of one of our great Americans, Garfield the cat, and also maybe one other guy, we take on 2024’s The Garfield Movie.
With The Fantastic Four: First Steps coming to theaters soon, listener Andrew asked the question “Galactus and The Silver Surfer — what’s their deal, man?” and Elliott gladly stepped up to answer.
We’re joined by longtime friend of the show (but first time on mic!) Alejandro Arbona, a 20-year veteran of comics editing and a comics writer himself, to discuss everyone’s favorite extravagantly-perverse Italian thriller genre — GIALLO. We discuss what defines a giallo and differentiates it from other sub-genres (and the slasher films it helped inspire), and then Alejandro runs us through a little giallo title quiz. It’s so jam-packed with info we didn’t have room for Elliott (jk, he had scheduling issues, that li’l scamp will be back next time!).
We start the new year off with a BIG movie, especially according to its star, Mr. Dwayne Mr. “The Rock” E. Normous Johnson. It’s Black Adam, a superhero probably even fewer of you have heard of than Shazam (nee Captain Marvel), in whose pages B. Adam first appeared. He’s not your daddy’s superhero, in that he kills a bunch of people, but he probably is your daddy’s (or granddaddy’s) superhero in the sense that he’s from 1945. Anyway, they made a long, boring movie about him, so we talk about it.
With Black Widow in theaters this week, we talk about the Marvel property everyone’s talking about! The Eternals! Elliott attempts to answer the important question: What’s their deal?
Look, it was probably inevitable that we’d end up discussing Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and we’ll say this — it is certainly the most Zack Snyder-y Justice League we’ve ever seen (check out of our discussion of the theatrical cut here). In fact, it’s SO Zach Snyder-y that it’s four hours long… so we’ve split our ZSJL episode in TWO! That’s double the discussion of this already over-discussed movie. YOU’RE WELCOME, WORLD!
With Infinity War breaking records, it’s time to check in with that OTHER cinematic universe, that hath given the Flop House so much, with our look at Justice League. Meanwhile, Stuart reveals Donatello’s government job, Dan misreads the title, and Elliott posits that Batman is the result of inbreeding.
