Right? Hey, where are you going? If we had to watch Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, at least have the common decency to listen to us talk about it. Meanwhile, Elliott reveals Alfred Molina’s secret acting tips, Dan settles old scores and burns new bridges, and Stuart gives lessons in beating up the elderly.

Nice! I did not expect an episode today. Elliott admonishing Dan–“No. Shut it down.”–is an immediate favorite.
I loved the idea that if Huey, Dewey, and Louie got Scrooge’s money, they’d spend it on, “Stickers, crackers, and shit”.
I have no idea if anyone checks the back issue comments anymore, but I was so taken aback by Elliot’s opinions about The Kids Are All Right that I wanted to say something. As Dan correctly states (and I want to re-emphasize), Jules never fell in love with Paul. A fairly big point was made about that–there are at least two scenes where Jules states that she does not want to run away with Paul (is not in love with him) and that she is not suddenly straight. Also, with regards to the movie’s examination of sexuality, I also think Elliot is mistaken in suggesting that the movie didn’t make a big point of Jules’s possibly flexible sexuality either. Right in the beginning is a scene where our main lesbian couple is watching a gay porn to fulfill their own sexual desires, and Jules is the one to explain to their children why gay porn is particularly compelling to them. Because of this first scene and the cracks in her relationship with Nic, I don’t think that Jules’s fling with Paul is so out of place for her.
I do agree that this movie is over-hyped, but I greatly appreciate it both for the fact that it is written/directed by a member of the LGBTQ community and that it is actually a great watch. In my opinion, The Kids Are All Right is a little more complex than Elliot suggests. I’m also miffed when people assume a character is either straight, gay, or lesbian when the character does not explicitly state s/he is such. Unfortunately I can’t remember if Jules explicitly defines herself as lesbian, so I am just making this a general statement. Bisexuality exists and I wish it were a greater part of the conversation about characters’ potential sexual identities.
Anyways, even with my disagreements I do love the podcast! I’m starting from the beginning and working my way back to the current episodes and I love hearing how the house cat came to be.
Ben Kingsley’s character standing a reasonable chance against Jake Gyllenhaal’s sounds like an extension of all the cheap kung fu movies in the ’70s in which the ancient, white-haired, giant-eyebrowed, evil sifu nearly beats the protagonists at the end.
